Ungender
A third of the child brides in the world are from India. Their story is often one of lost dreams and unrealised potential. At Ripples of Hope (RoH), we work to change this by pursuing an ungendered society where young girls can make informed life-choices. We use sports, education and legal tools to help marginalised girls challenge patriarchy and choose personal growth over early marriage. Every time a girl makes an empowered choice, a ripple of change travels from her family to the larger community.
In support of ungendering

"We have noticed that the inclusion of sport for adolescent and young girls is valuable. Exposure to play, combating prejudice and prevalent norms, teaching life skills & team work, the freedom that it makes available especially for girls who are otherwise restricted across many life choices - for all of these reasons, sport is a critical element and a fundamental one."

"In the last 20 years I have focused on ensuring my house help's daughter has as much educational and economic opportunity as my daughter. Most large-scale development interventions for girls focus on the same. Ripples of Hope sets the bar much higher. Can my house help's daughter 'play', 'fool around', 'express herself' as much as my daughter? This approach has the opportunity to disrupt gender programming in India and worldwide since a true expression of empowerment is agency, is rest, is pleasure, not merely an equal right to survival."
